Doctor Team

Dr. Doug Schwenka
Dr. Doug Schwenka grew up on a farm near Minden, raising animals and crops. He attended Kansas State University where he graduated with his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 1988, and starting at the Animal Clinic in 1989. He spends the majority of his days outback working cattle and other small ruminants, but will occasionally see small animals when needed. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Linda, and their three children, Jono, Beau, and Madi. Doug is an avid golfer, and if you can't find him on the links, he is sure to be found on his farm raising his cattle.

Dr. Cody Hegemann
Dr. Cody Hegemann grew up on an acreage outside of Howells, a small town in northeast Nebraska. He attended Howells High School and after graduation studied at UNL for 3 years where he received his Bachelors in animal science. He was then accepted into the University of Nebraska-Lincoln/Iowa State University Professional Program of Veterinary Medicine.  Cody received his Doctorate in veterinary medicine in 2017 from Iowa State University.  He and his wife Michelle, have two sons, Owen and Liam, and currently live in Hastings. Dr. Hegemann enjoys spending his free time with his family as well as anything outdoors, whether its hunting, fishing or camping.

Dr. Tim Overmiller
Dr. Tim Overmiller is originally from Smith Center, Kansas and attended Kansas State University for both undergrad and veterinary school. He received his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 1988. He started at the Animal Clinic in 1995 after spending time in Iowa and Columbus. Tim specializes in swine but thrives will all species.  Tim and his wife Susan have four boys, whom they love spending time with. Tim is an avid KState fan and he can often be found attending all types of events. If he's not decked in purple, he's usually out taking relaxing walks with Barry the dog.

Dr. Pat Wahlmeier
Doctor Patrick Wahlmeier came to us from Norton, Kansas after graduating at Kansas State University with his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1984. Pat is often busy with swine and cattle, but can often be found helping small animals too. Pat and his wife, Debbie, spend much of their time with their children and many grandchildren. If he's not found at the clinic or with family, you can often find him fishing, hunting, or building various projects.

Dr. Lauren Werner

Dr. Lauren Werner grew up on a farm south of Carleton, Nebraska and went to school in Deshler. She attended undergrad at the University of Nebraska- Kearney where she ran cross country and track. She then went to veterinary school at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln/Iowa State College of Veterinary Medicine where she graduated with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2015. She has been with the Animal Clinic since 2015. She currently lives with her daughter Mia and dog Roxy in Juniata. She enjoys traveling back home to spend time with her family, running and training for races, and riding horses.

 Dr. Kendal Smith
​Dr. Kendal Smith grew up on a farm by Ladysmith, Virginia, raising all types of livestock. She was accepted into the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech where she received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2018. Since then, she has become certified in chiropractic medicine through the International Veterinary Chiropractic Association, and will become a certified Veterinary Medical Acupuncturist in November of 2020. She and her fiance, Franklin, live in Minden with daughters Bessy and Iris. She enjoys spending time with family, propagating succulents, team roping, and enjoying all types of food.

Joni Pankoke, Licensed Veterinary Technician
Joni is originally from Gretna and moved to Hastings area after Graduating from the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in 2008. She graduated with an Associates in Applied Sciences. Joni enjoys spending time with her husband Bruce and their two children,  Alivia and Kyle. She can often be found gardening, reading or camping, as well as caring for her own pets, Rowdy, Penny, Joey, Sidney and Casey.

Molly Rajdl, Veterinary Assistant - Large Animal
After graduating from Hastings College in 2013 with a Bachelors of Arts in biology, Molly joined the Animal Clinic team where she works all things large animal.  Outside of work, she enjoys helping her dad with his cattle, running, reality TV shows, and keeping track of her husband and their two dogs, horses, and Dennis the Cat.

Sharmayne Grabowski, Licensed Veterinary Technician
Sharmayne grew up on a farm near Prosser Nebraska. She attended Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture where she received her Associates in Applied Sciences in 2014. She went on to UNL to receive her Bachelors in Veterinary Technology in 2015. She and her husband, Derrick and Daughter Kaylea, enjoy spending time with family and friends and running their own cattle herd. Fur children include; Silver and multiple farm cats. 

Sarah Hnizdil, Veterinary Assistant
Originally from Roseland, Ne, Sarah graduated from Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in 2012 with an associates degree in Animal Husbandry in Livestock. After living in Kansas for several years, Sarah has returned to Roseland with her Husband Martin and their daugher Isabella. They have three dogs; Roper, Jake, & Dixie and enjoy spending time with family, hunting and fishing. 
Ashley Scherbarth, Veterinary Technician
Ashley grew up in Hastings and started her role at the Animal Clinic years ago as a kennel staff member in high school. Since then, she has worked in veterinary clinics and graduated from Penn Foster College for Veterinary Technicians. She and her husband Wes, along with their children Blaine, Maddisyn, Emma, & Paislee, live near Juniata raising cattle, pigs, and horses. You can often find her gardening, riding horses, hunting or fishing.

Christi is originally from Manchester, Illinois where she graduated from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale with a bachelors in Animal Science. She started with the Animal Clinic in 2011 and She and her husband Brent, and step children, Hannah and Branden live in Trumbull. Christi enjoys fishing, hunting, and  traveling back home to visit family.

Sue Smith
 Sue graduated from NCTA with a degree in veterinary technology and began her career at the Animal Clinic in 1983.  She lives on a farm in rural Nebraska with her husband and 2 sons, 3 dogs, 2 cats and 3 horses.  Sue enjoys camping, fishing, gardening, golf, bowling, cooking and riding horses.


Kay Manley
Kay graduated from Central Community College of Hastings in 2016 with an Associates in Applied Science. She lives outside of Red Cloud on a small homestead with her husband, new baby boy, 4 dogs, 2 cats, 2 horses and a flock of chickens. Kay enjoys simply spending time with friends, family, and their critters: as well as photography. She joined our team July of 2020.
