Pet Adoption - A Life Long Commitment

Any decision to acquire a pet should be made by all members of the family. Everyone should be in agreement to determine if they really want a pet. Is everyone prepared to include it as part of the family. Have you researched the particular species and breed in which you are interested. Have you determine if it is right for your lifestyle or will it complicate it?

Are you willing to spend the time to train your new pet? How will you teach it the rules of the house? Will someone be consistently available to work with your new friend in adapting to its new environment? Training should start the moment you bring your new pet home, and everyone in the household should be involved. In some cases, it may take weeks or months to train properly. Do you have the patience and time to take on that type of commitment?

It is impossible to estimate how much time caring for a pet will require until it is in the home with you. In addition to training, you will need time for exercise and interaction. Do you have the time to give?

Have you considered the costs? Licenses, food, training, equipment, grooming, toys and veterinary care add up quickly. Ask questions about the costs of these things. Do your homework before making a decision.

If you are a parent wanting to adopt a pet for your child, remember that you are ultimately the responsible party and could easily become the full-time caregiver for the animal if your child looses interest or is busy with other activities. In addition, when your child grows up and leaves home are you willing to assume total responsibility for the pet? If you are not an animal lover, do not adopt a pet for your child. It is not fair to the pet. Pets need unconditional love just as we do. If that love and caring is not there, the pet will suffer.

If you rent your home, be sure you have in writing that you are allowed to have the pet. What will you do when you move? Will you make the commitment to take the animal with you?

If you have decided that you and your household are ready to commit to that journey of friendship and love, we wish you a life long road of happiness with your new friend. Please view our clinic pets for adoption. The cost of adoption will vary for each animal. Please feel free to contact us with any questions. We also have listings for other pets needing loving homes. Remember to do your homework before adopting. Find out the animal's history - health care, temperament, what type of lifestyle is best suited to that animal.
